How the Technology Commons Alliance handles the personal information you share with us through this site.
Technology Commons Alliance, Inc. (“TCA”, “we”, “us”) is a nonprofit corporation recognized as tax-exempt under Internal Revenue Code §501(c)(3). Our principal office is at 164 Hamilton Avenue, Palo Alto, California 94301. This notice explains what personal information we collect through tcalliance.ai (the “site”), how we use it, and the choices you have. It does not cover information we collect outside the site, for example in the course of a grant or investment relationship; we will provide separate notice where that applies.
Information you give us. When you use a form on the site, we collect what you enter: your name, email address, organization (optional), and your message. We also record which page the form was on and when you submitted it. Forms are processed by our hosting provider, Netlify, which also records the IP address the submission came from and applies spam filtering; a copy of each submission is emailed to us. We use a hidden field to detect automated spam; it is never shown to people and stores no information about you.
Newsletter. If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address and, optionally, your first name. Subscriptions are processed by Mailchimp (Intuit Inc.), and the newsletter form submits directly to Mailchimp’s servers.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our hosting provider (Netlify, Inc.) records standard server logs when you visit: your IP address, browser type, the pages you request, and the time of the request. Netlify retains these logs for a limited period for security and operations.
We use Netlify’s server-side analytics to see aggregate figures such as page views, referring sites, and the countries visitors come from. This is computed from the server logs described above; it places no cookies or scripts in your browser and does not identify you individually. We do not use advertising or social-media tracking tools, the site does not set cookies, and all fonts and scripts are served from our own domain. Because we do not track you across sites, we do not respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals; there is nothing for them to change.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
Form submissions are viewed only by people with authorized access to our systems.
We keep form submissions for as long as we need them to respond and follow up, and we periodically delete submissions that did not lead to further contact. Email correspondence with us is retained under our record retention policy, which requires us to keep significant correspondence and records of grants, investments, and contracts for a number of years after they end. Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe. Server logs and analytics are retained by Netlify for a limited period under its own policy.
Our systems are in the United States, and any information you submit is transferred to and stored there. U.S. privacy law may differ from the law where you live.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland: we process information you submit on the basis of our legitimate interest in responding to your inquiry and running our programs, or, for the newsletter, your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. You have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of your information, to object to processing, to data portability, and to complain to your local data-protection authority. Contact us at the address below to exercise these rights.
The site is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, email us and we will delete it.
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information, including access controls on the systems where form submissions are stored. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We will post any changes to this notice on this page and update the effective date. If a change is material, we will say so prominently on the site.
